Monday's Happening

So this top picture is a cute picture of our now happy boy who fell down the stairs yesterday and put a nice little gash on the top of his head.

 His gash required 3 stitches.

Here's a better picture after we got it all cleaned up last night:

I was in town picking up a few things when it happened.  Scott called me and said Can you come home we need to take Matthew in to get a few stitches.  My heart instantly started racing.  How can Scott be so calm? I did okay until I got home and seen the blood but after I came in and gave Matthew a hug I felt better.  Matthew and Scott had been working outside.  They came inside to get something to drink because Matthew was thristy.  As they went back out, Matthew fell down the stairs outside and went through the railing (after we moved the deck this past summer we put the old deck back up temporarily and the railing on the deck has the top handrail and then a short handrail).  When he fell, he went right under the short handrail and Scott said he grabbed for him but couldn't get enough of his coat to stop him.  The doctors and nurses we had at urgent care was wonderful.  I didn't lose it until they had to strap him down to do the stitches.  Scott held his head and I got to hold his hands.  I am sure that eveyone in the clinic could hear Matthew screaming and the screaming is what made me lose it.  After the doctor was done, it didn't take Matthew very long to calm down after he was in Daddy's lap.  We took him for ice cream for being a very brave boy while getting stitches.

After we got home, we put batteries in his microphone that he got from Santa.  He was singing and then he said(into his microphone), "I fell down today and bonked my head and got stitches in my head."  It was cute hearing him say his version of the story.

Later in the afternoon, Matthew was playing and hit his elbow on something.  I asked if he was okay and he said, "It's not bleeding" two times.  Had to reassure himself that he didn't have to go to the doctor again.

He got to sleep with us last night so that we could make sure that he was okay.

He is doing good.  He has been his silly little self and continues to make up laugh.



Gingerbread House

I decided that doing a gingerbread house with Matthew would be fun!

It was LOTS of fun and LOTS of mess! :)

I don't remember ever doing a gingerbread house before so I had this vision in my head what I wanted it to look like.  I quickly realized that I should have known better to have a vision.

I decided to just let Matthew be creative!

It was way more fun and less stressful!

I got a little silly and put frosting on Matthew's nose.

He thought that was funny.

So he must more frosting on his face!

We had candy everywhere.  Some little marble shaped candies came with the kit and they went everywhere!

He decided that he wanted to do the icing himself.

He did pretty good but I had to keep pushing it to the tip.

As you can see, we had frosting everywhere!

Putting the frosting on his face was not a smart idea on my part. 

 His face broke out in a rash! 

I was lucky and it cleared up pretty quickly!



Big Boy Bed

On Friday night, we decided to turn the crib into a big boy bed:

On Saturday morning, I heard him wake up but I stayed in bed to see what he would do.

He stayed in bed for 45 minutes talking and singing to himself until I went in there with the camera of course.

Now when he wakes up, he stands up like he is still in the crib and cries or hollers for mommy or daddy.

He is doing awesome in his bed!!!!

First Visit to the Dentist

This past week, Scott and I had our dental check-ups.  When I was there on Wednesday, the dentist suggested that he also should see Matthew.  I told him that I had planned on bring Matthew in on Thursday to observe Scott.  He said that he would take a look at Matthew too if Matthew would allow it.

We all had great check-ups and none of us had cavities!

Matthew even got his picture taken and put up on the "No Cavity Club" board for everyone to see.

That was one of the last commercial cabinet jobs that I designed before Matthew was born.



A Walk down the Paul Bunyan Trail

One day last week, I decided that Matthew and I were going to take a walk down the Paul Bunyan trail.  When I told Matthew, he said, "scared" because whenever we talk about Paul Bunyan he always says that he was scared.

We found a fun little bridge that we played on for a few minutes.

I got a few good pictures of him on the bridge, otherwise they were all of him walking away from me.

When we seen the trail that leads back to the parking lot, Matthew got really excited and shouted, Right There!  He started clapping and was really excited to be going back to the car.

We had lots of fun on our walk that day.

We will definitely being walking the trail again.

I hope next time we can get Daddy to go with us and get some family pictures.

Train Ride in Duluth

I am sorry that I am so late on getting this posted but on Monday night last week, I got sick with what I thought was the flu.  On Tuesday, Scott and I ended up spending 5 hours in the ER.  I was diagnosed with Vertigo.  I just started feeling better on Sunday and am pretty much feeling like my old self again.

On Sunday, September 26, we went to Duluth  for a train ride.  We were on the train for a total of about 4 hours.  It was about a 2 hour ride to Two Harbors, 2 hour layover and then 2 hours ride back to Duluth.

The train engine was a 1957 locomotive that was original used on the iron range.

We got to see inside the engine.

Matthew loves trains and he talked about going for a train ride for days.

I think he was a little tired from our drive to Duluth.

Back in Duluth, we passed another train on the rail next to us!

After our train ride, we headed to Canal Park to the lift bridge for a little bit before we headed home.

As we were getting out of the vehicle, we noticed the lift bridge was going up and this is the ship that was headed out!

Then Grammie and Papa rented this cool bike for a quick few spins around the boardwalk.
