Does your child have a lovie? Be it a blanket, a nukkie/pacifier, or a stuffed toy.
Matthew still has his nukkie which we hopefully will be able to broke him of it soon. We have found that he loves to have a corner or part of a blanket lightly rubbed around on his cheek and his face. Of course we have to be careful not to get it full of Vaseline. We use Vaseline around his lips because his nukkie gives him a chapped area around his mouth.
Any good ideas to use to take the nukkie away?

I used to cut a little bit of it at a time from to to bottom...sometimes if you say you have to give it to another baby that works too! He really does get a rash, but I am such a softie, I don't know if I could take it away yet... If I hear of any more ideas I will let you know!
If you have a Build a Bear store let him stuff his favorite pacifier inside the animal to always have it. Take pictures of the whole activity to share with him and remind him that his passy is safe. At Build a Bear they sew the stuffed animal up and the child has the pacifier forever. Also, tie the pacifier to helium filled balloons and send it up to the sky for a new baby to use. I would be extremely careful cutting it as suggested above due to chocking potential. If you dont have a Build a Bear store then get a new stuffed animal yourself and show him how you put it in the stuffed animal for keeps forever. Give him a replaced object to love like the blankie you described. It will be tough for a while without the pacifier but in time it will get easier and much better for development.
What I meant was that I cut the top off....the base is still attached to the binky...They typically wont even take the binky then...I would NOT send the binky into the sky as that poses a choking hazard to any animal or bird that gets it after you send it off! Good Luck...
Jakob still sucks his thumb and Jada is very attached to her pacifier. They both have blankies that they are very attached too. My sister works in an inner city school and had the kids write a story about something that made them sad and 1/2 of them wrote about how awful it was when their parents took their blanket away. . . They were all very traumatized! So, I won't be taking them away. Who cares, right? Jakob's NUNU has taken on a life of his own and has been great for teaching! I have no idea what I'm going to do with the NUK. It makes my shopping trips much more pleasant and the doctor kind of agrees with me on that on! :0) Sorry I wasn't much help. . . .
