9 Month Check Up

On Friday we went in for Matthew's 9 month well child check up. He weighs 18 lbs and is 27 3/4" long. For weight he is only in the 15 percentile and for height he is in the 60 percentile. He also had to have his toe pricked so that they could draw blood to test for lead and anemia. He didn't even cry and the nurse was squeezing pretty hard because his toe didn't want to give up much blood. We also talked to the doctor about Matthew's cold. We told him how he had a cold over Mother's day weekend and it moved into his chest and he was getting better and got a relapse of his cold just like Scott and I both did. After the doctor was done listening to Matthew's chest he decided that he wanted to put Matthew on a nebulizer because he is wheezing. He thought it is probably just from his cold but he wanted to get Matthew's lungs opened up. He also put him on an antibiotic. Well after we got home, we did a nebulizer treatment. The treatment lasts anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes. The treatment consists of putting a small tube of medicine in the cup that Scott is holding and the machine that it is hooked up to turns it into a mist that Matthew breathes in. Matthew did okay with it the first few minutes and as you can see I made Scott be the bad guy and do the treatment. Matthew is a Daddy's boy anyway. As you can see in this first picture he was doing okay with it but continue down to the follow pictures. Okay so now he is not so happy and is crying just a little.
He is now screaming, fighting and trying to pull away.
He was pretty upset during the treatment but the pharmacist said that if he is crying the more it will open his lungs and the deeper the medicine will get into his lungs. We felt so bad for him during the treatment. We have heard him cry but WOW the crying and fighting was worse then what he does on the changing table (Yay he hates to be changed which I don't understand because he loves to be naked). The doctor said that Matthew's cough should become more productive (He has been coughing so hard that he throws up) and when his cough and wheezing is gone we can stop the nebulizer treatments. And of course if we don't see improvement we need to make another appointment with the doctor.

Well when Matthew woke up this morning we did another treatment. It did not go so bad. He cried a little bit after about 4 minutes but I tried to keep him distracted with a few toys and talking with him in a soothing voice.

I can't belive he has grown so much! It seems like yesterday he was born. I am sorry to hear that a cold has gotten him down, but I know those neb treatments sure work well. I hope you feel better Matthew! We love you!

Poor baby! I hope he feels better soon soon soon! It is definitely hard on mommy and daddy--that is for sure! Stay warm and snuggly!!
